Minecraft Dungeons – Likes & Gripes

⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️

Simplistic and a bit grindy, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Likes

  • So much fun to smash through mobs.😇
  • Exploration is rewarded (most of the time).
  • Most, if not all, areas are interesting.
  • Fun to challenge your play-style in harder versions of areas.
  • Artifacts add some unique spice to the gameplay.*
  • Enchanting can make a lower-level weapon a lot better.**
  • Daily trials offer a wealth of new challenges to both older and newer levels.
  • Variety of villager merchants provides a lot more options than at launch.
  • Blacksmith can upgrade items!

Gripes

  • Game doesn’t actually pause in offline mode.🤔
  • Those loading times...
  • Crashes...😑 ***
  • May take several attempts to unlock secret missions with the random level generation.😤
  • Enchanted mob spawns can be brutal
  • FPS is not a steady 30, and can be even worse in outdoor areas (refer to Creeper Woods).
  • Method of spawning mobs can be a bit ruthless, especially in tighter spaces...
  • The Power system... kind of makes sense... ish?

SCORE: 4/5

*: Lv 25 Gold Bane Glaive (which comes with Smiting) with Fire Aspect III and Poison Cloud III was my main choice for melee up until the end of Soggy Swamp in Adventure mode (which the game didn’t recommend playing until I was at Power 45).

**: Artifacts add an aspect of strategy by offering different ways to combat mobs, whether in general or in certain locations of a level.

***: Auto-saving is a lifesaver if you’ve just gotten a powerful item. Even if the game crashes, the regular auto-saving makes sure that, regardless of area completion at the time of the crash, you keep the item(s).

****: Likely due to the Nether Update/1.16, which involves changing the Nether in general a lot. Big potential for DLC. And, what do you know: a Nether update with 6 new levels plus the curious "Ancient Hunt" mode...
